BANGALORE, July 1: On an eventful bright and breezy afternoon, Mercedes’ German driver Nico Rosberg clinched the British Grand Prix title at Silverstone on Sunday.
Red Bull’s Mark Webber finished second while Ferrari’s Spanish driver Fernando Alonso clinched the third spot.
The race was almost stopped after rear tyres of five cars exploded. Ferrari's Felipe Massa, Jean-Eric Vergne in the Toro Rosso and Sauber's Mexican drivers Esteban Gutierrez and Sergio Perez and McLaren also suffered tyre failures.
Rosberg’s team-mate Lew Hamilton, who grabbed pole in front of his home fans, led for the first eight laps until the 2008 world champion's rear left tyre ripped apart.
After the race, Red Bull said they found cuts in Vettel’s tyre after he had pitted.
Red Bull’s triple world champion Sebastian Vettel suffered a rare mechanical failure to retire from the race.
Force India’s German driver Adrian Sutil was seventh with Australian Daniel Ricciardo, one of the candidates to replace Webber next season, eighth for Toro Rosso.
